Award Challenge to Young People
The Bettridge Centre is now running a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme programme with meetings every Sunday 5pm - 7pm. All members of the community aged between 14 and 25 can take part.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is well established and we are glad to be able to provide access to it for the young people in the area. The award is a challenging programme of activities which help individuals learn new skills. help others, and experience adventure. It gives a great sense of achievement and many employers and universities take a good view of the Award and what it says about the person who has achieved it. Aberdeenshire Council is the regional co-ordinator and their Linda Clark has helped the
centre get started. Help will be needed to run the scheme though there will be access to a bank of volunteers used in other areas.
Linda said: "Whatever your skills and qualifications the Duke of Edinburgh's Award could
have the perfect role for you. Each year the scheme helps more than 200,000 young
people fulfil their ambitions. But they need volunteers to guide them through it."
If you'd like to know Linda can be contacted at Banchory Academy on 01330 825966.
The Newtonhill Common Good Fund has provided start-up funding; another example of the community helping itself by using monies raised within the village to provide for its own.
Young people often complain there's nothing to do. Well here's a great opportunity try
something.
More good news for you youngsters there is no exam and you can't fail! The Award is
about having a go. You just need enterprise and perseverance."
