Allotments

Newtonhill Village Association

The Newtonhill Allotment Association (NAA) held its first Annual General Meeting in 1992 and is now a thriving society with twenty one active members and a waiting list. Each member has a substantial plot and a half share in a shed. All the plots are in different states of development, but all have had devotion in their cultivation; some plotholders apply organic methods, some prefer the rotovator to the spade and vice versa, all manage to obtain "fertiliser" from local farmers. Some plots are all edibles, some are all floral, others are mixed.

The NAA had an annual stall at the Skateraw Fair until 1998 when the committee decided to change their contribution to the village year. They instituted a Best Garden competition to find the finest front gardens in Newtonhill. This is now an annual event and is judged at the end of July when gardens should be at their summer best. The committee look at every garden in the village then tour around together to produce a short list of about ten.

Villagers are always welcome to stroll around the allotments to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells.
