Bettridge Centre Funding

I'm getting bored with no new threads to read.......

Anyone see the article in yesterdays P&J regarding council funding application for this year?

Interesting reading on the P&J website from online responses to the article. Particularly the one saying the money came from builders...(if only life were that simple). Also interesting to read how Portlethen residents view the Bettridge.

Anyway, at this point I'd like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has supported the Bettridge since it opened, but particularly this last year. I know we don't always get it right - and we don't keep everybody happy all of the time... but we do try.

I'd like to hear from the community what events or activities you all enjoyed, what you didn't enjoy, what works / doesn't work etc.

Whether you helped dig the garden, come to some event, or send your kids to events, or whatever....you have all helped. Thank you - it does make a difference.

The article in the P&J *should* have stated a thank you, but this was a little bit glossed over.

Portlethen Football Teams

Sorry Pete, sounds to me like your Portlethen Football teams use the Bettridge because at the moment they have nowhere else to train, not because they are supporters of the Bettridge. Nothing wrong with that but let's be honest about it

In short no,the community centre as is will be razed to the ground soon and its pretty grim. There is the jubilee hall and that isnt much better. So really portlethen has not got anywhere that could be construed as a COMMUNITY hall.Which is sad cos when folk have nowhere decent to gather it doesnt promote community feeling and that pub the lethal arms is well named.

Good-oh!

Have they not got a community centre or village hall then?

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't know anyone who lives there nor I actually go anywhere other than the surgery and Asda!

Fair doos melanie no offence intended and none taken. :D

Sorry - that last reply was me.

Okay, I stand corrected - I didn't know that they don't have a suitable venue for a ceilidh. I'm wrong! I admit it!

I was just trying to say that not *all* Portlethen people are anti-Bettridge Centre.

I am sure there are plenty folk in portlethen that would organise a hogmanay do,but where exactly would they hold it.They dont have a facility like the Betteridge,so to suggest they do is as daft as me trailing my black bags into stoney on the bus.No offence melanie.I know my family in portlethen would love such a facility and have bought tickets for the newtonhill do.

Betteridge Centre

I agree not all Portlethen folk moan about the Betteridge centre.
As I said in other threads I am from Newtonhill but am the Chairman of Portlehten Sports Club which operates seven football teams at different ages and we have been keen supporters of the Betteridge Centre for training and meetings etc. We have about 4 or 5 of our team training there regularly.
Unfortunately I am not sure what will happen when the new Academy facilities open up I expect we would have to use their facilities especially as their will be dedicated football facilities but I would still hold the Betteridge centre as an excellent venue for our meetings and any fundraising events etc.
As I said I live in Newtonhill and totally support what the Betteridge centre does for the village and would look to support it any way I can.
In fact when I ran Newtonhill Boys Club our teams contributed a fair sum of money to the centre from one of our fundraising events.
So keep up the good work to everyone involved your doing a great job.

Just wanted to say that there are at least some people in Portlethen who use the Bettridge and don't moan about it - I've sold tickets for Bells at the Bettridge to people from Portlethen on all 3 occasions I think.

Maybe that tells us that there's not enough community spirit going on in Portlethen for them to organise their own hogmanay do?

I think we can be very very proud of the amazing community spirit in Newtonhill, even if people can't help out with gardening and suchlike, even just buying a ticket and coming along to a fundraising event makes all the difference.

Interesting article. Just as well you posted about it, seeing as I don't buy "news" papers.

Link to the article incase anyone else is interested is:

Aye portlethen folk get the short end right enough.Bigger population and nae community.A damn feel eedjit scuppered their community council and the school is a nightmare,my grandchildren go there. I have heard they believe portlethens planning gain was used in the building of the Betteridge.but its past my bedtime so ahll awa and think on about building a handcart, winder if I could borra a haimmer.
