Skateraw Fair 2009 - Boogie Wonderland

Skateraw Fair 2009

What a great day, the sun shone all day; the beer tent, BBQ and Strawberry stalls all sold out as people turned out in droves. Derek Young opened the Fair and spent time speaking to many youngsters at the event, with Angus the Bull getting the high fives from the young fans. Granite City Brass entertained in the main hall at the Bettridge Centre along with stage performances by Kidzact, Tooters and Line Dancers.
Stall holders worked hard to prepare their stalls but the beer tent came out on top with its Boozie Wonderland to take the best dressed stall trophy. Time ran out on the face painting with several youngsters disappointed not to get their chosen designs, such was the demand for the service, a drumming workshop also proved very popular.

One slightly disappointing aspect was the low turn out for the evening dance. The band, Glammd, were fabulous and a great evening was had by those who did come along. However, for future years it may not be sustainable to book tip top but expensive entertainment if the dance is not going to be supported.

The committee are though, very grateful to all who contributed to the day in any way. Early indications are that in excess of £4000 was made for the Fair and the funds of individual village groups. When all outgoings have been accounted for a substantial donation will be made to the Newtonhill Common Good Fund.
