"Landed toff issues plea to allow him to earn loads more money."

Oops, sorry, totally misread the title of the article. Should be "Landowner issues plea over his bid to create village near Newtonhill".

Village? 6000 homes is a village? Apparently he also reckons that traffic "won't be heading up the A90 in the same way" towards the Bridge of Dee as traffic from a development at Banchory-Leggart would. Where will it all be going then?

Indeed

I know that people opposed the development of the houses in the area which I now live in and I can sympathise with that a great deal, however, the extra homes in the village also brought a brand new primary school. However, at the moment, the proposed developments are all entirely developer-led and take no account of the thoughts and feelings of the existing residents. Of course, developers are only in the business of making money. They care not a jot for the effects on the existing residents and don't particularly care if the new residents end up living cheek by jowl. IF extra houses are bolted onto Newtonhill, there will be no provision for any extra amenities, which means that Newtonhill stands to gain nothing, but lose a lot of its character, feel and amenity. People MUST voice their concerns and fight to maintain what at present is a really lovely village to live in, just the right size and with lovely countryside around it which I feel very lucky to be able to run and cycle around. Aberdeenshire Council is constantly banging on about the "city and shire" brand and what a fantastic quality of life we have in this area, and for the moment I agree with that, but it unfortunately seems that this quality of life is to be eroded.

Yes, houses have to be built somewhere because people have to live somewhere, but must it necessarily be to the detriment of the existing population? That's the question. How much negative impact should any new developments be allowed to have?

You're right

Yes, you are correct.. there will still be opposition in 20+ years from those who see sense and care passionately about their community and it's sustainabilty. Ill thought through developments which give no thought to safety (road and personal) should be opposed with vigour.

Many people, 20 Years ago were against building new homes in the villiage. Local opinion i would say was generally against the expansion. Never the less it happend and many more houses were built. People have to live somewhere.

There are going to be 60,000 new homes built in Aberdeenshire at least as part of the local plan, a good chunk of them will be built in the Aberdeen - Stonehaven corridor so regardless of whether the Elsick estate is 'picked' it's likely to be mean significant amounts of extra cars on the duel carridgeway. The houses have to be built somewhere, i can well imagine the residents of Elsick Villiage and Newtonhill up in arms over a new development on their doorstep in 20 years time.

We'll probaly end up with another 6000 hooray Henry's clogging up our country roads and the A90... "BLISS"...

cynical Col.....

Well-reasoned arguments!

As far as I can see, they don't appear to make any argument, well-reasoned or otherwise - instead they just prefix all their media soundbites with "we believe", which is the sort of rubbish bad journalists seem to throw in to excuse themselves afterwards from not having done any actual research, e.g.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Anews.bbc.co.uk+%22believed+to+ha...

Well...

I'm always prepared to listen to well-reasoned arguments, but when someone is trying to tell me that the people living in 6000 houses with access to the A90 *won't* be travelling into Aberdeen on the A90 most mornings I reserve the right to take it with a pinch of salt!

Indeed

Well he's patently an idiot or a liar (or both), neither of which is really an asset in someone heading a large scale development. One would hope that the council planners aren't (but then look at the farce with the Trump golf course when someone tried to apply a bit of common sense).
