Sorry I've come a bit late to the discussion on funds raised in the village and giving money to charity etc. As secretary of the Common Good Fund I was very concerned to read the story that Newtonvale Court wanted to apply for funds but were told "it was a very long process and they would probably be turned down anyway"
This is definitely not the case. Every application for financial help is dealt with as soon as we can arrange a meeting of the Trustees. We discuss whether the project is for the common good of the village and how much should be given. This is usually in the region of 50 per cent, though we also sometimes offer a loan to make up the difference.
Awards since October 2009 have included £600 to the Bettridge Centre (for new stage lights), £300 to Newtonhill Boys Football Club (for kit and furnishing their container in the Coastal Park ), £500 to the Evergreen Club (for equipment) and £450 to the Out of School Club (for a digital TV aerial so they can watch the World Cup!)
If you or your Group have a scheme which might improve amenities in the village, please send your application for funds to
Penny Hartley, 4 Greystone Place, Newtonhill, AB39 3UL
Tips on how to apply:
Have a definite project in mind. For example, we don't give out lump sums for running costs or day to day expenses.
Put your request in writing, with a quote or estimate of what it will cost.
Say what the benefits would be and if you have any plans to fundraise yourselves.
And please don't let anyone out there say it's impossible to get money out of the Common Good Fund!
Easy....
As someone who's applied for funding from the Common Good Fund, I can confirm that is a really easy, quick process. At the end of last year, I made an application on behalf of the Bettridge Centre for funding for new stage lighting as the old lights were particularly decrepit. No sooner had Penny received my application, but it was acknowledged, and then I was asked some questions for clarification. A decision was made within a couple of weeks and funding confirmed.
So, to any community groups who have a funding need - get your applications in now!
