Volunteer with Guiding

As you may or may not be aware, Girlguiding in Newtonhill and Portlethen is facing a crisis. Currently we have large waiting lists because of the popularity of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, and a severe shortage of adult volunteers coming forward to offer a little of their time in helping to run a group. More volunteers from our local community would mean that the waiting lists would be shorter and that more girls could enjoy all that guiding offers. This is something we all want to see happen.

Would you be prepared to help us achieve this?

I am writing to all parents at Newtonhill Primary School, to see whether you, your friends or colleagues could offer to volunteer. This would help these girls on the waiting lists get into guiding immediately. Many of us already lead busy lives but would like to be able to help out in some capacity. We want to make it as easy as possible for you and others to do just that.

Volunteering with guiding is as flexible as you want it to be so if you can't give your time every week, you don't have to - many parents and other volunteers effectively `job share' as part of a rota.

And of course, you won’t be left on your own. All groups are led by a team of adults, so there will always be support available. If you choose to become a Leader, there is a comprehensive training programme available to equip you with any skills that may be needed. Other volunteers can participate in training courses as well. Alternatively you could help by joining FOG (Friends of Guiding) this is the fundraising arm of Girlguiding in Newtonhill and Portlethen.

If you and others are prepared to help out in this way, we will soon be able to offer more girls from the area the chance to take part in guiding - something they are so clearly wanting. Without your help some units may have to close.

To find out more please get in touch indicating the age group with which you would like to help out (5-7, 7-10, 10-14, or 14 years and over). Please consider helping your daughter and other girls in this way if you can.
